Are online school equally accepted by employers as a more traditional schooling would be?
Question by Calicy: Are online school equally accepted by employers as a more traditional schooling would be?
And if not, how so? Does online school provide good, thorough instruction? How are they accredited? Will I be as prepared for a career from learning online as I would be from studying at a community college/classroom setting? Will employers look at my resume the same for a online course as they would for a in-person course?
I am 18 and looking to train as a pharmacist technician so that I can get a part time job while I’m in school.

Today’s job opportunities are very slim compared to 10-12 years ago because of the economy and such. So it is very competitive when 25 people are applying for the same job. You want to make decisions that will put you ahead of everyone else, and one of those things are where you went to school. Jobs look at that and how your grades were.
If you want to get a quick license in something to help you earn money during college then go for it, but if you plan on doing something other than being a pharmacist, do not rely soley on online school.

No, those online, for-profit schools are not equally accepted by employers than the more traditional college or university. Please steer clear from those online, for-profit schools (though may have ‘brick and mortar’ campuses and may be ‘accredited’) such as penn foster, ashworth, kaplan, ITT tech, walden, university of phoenix, strayer, argosy, sanford brown, devry, ashford, stratford career, keiser, excelsior, capella, high tech, US career, remington, colorado tech and others as they are merely out to ‘make a profit’ (and course credits may NOT transfer to other schools). This consumer site has many posts by former students about those online, for-profit schools, and please heed the students’ warnings: ** http://www.ripoffreport.com ** and can search.
Please instead consider the more affordable (and usually more regulated) county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry.
For US colleges (including community colleges): http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ
General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘pharmacy technicians’ or such. Some people will say that one doesn’t necessarily need training to become a pharmacy tech, however, the schooling may certainly help the person to become more confident and competent while working as well as more marketable in the field.

Well it may depend on how much reputed the college/school is. If the college is accredited by reputed authorities then the degree earned will be very well respected in the job market. There are some authorities approved by US Department of Education which accredits the online colleges. The college can either be regionally accredited or nationally accredited. Having an accreditation means that the college has met the quality guidelines and standards set by the accrediting body.
So getting a degree from one such college will help you getting a job and will surely boost your career. It will be given the same preference as the traditional one.
This page http://www.thedegreeexperts.com/sd-diploma-in-pharmacy-technician-311.aspx lists the accredited colleges available online providing the diploma in pharmacy technician.
