You have found the problem yourself. The simple act of taking a computer into your house does not bestow administrator privileges, and you obviously lack those privileges on the computer to begin with.

As it is a school computer, I suggest you not install Steam, and instead use it for schoolwork.

u need to get the administrator’s password. Try asking your teacher for it. Pretend like oh you were trying to download a file like a document off the internet

While it is correct that you need administrative privileges to install steam on a take home school computer, the school will not give you those privileges for two reasons. 1) you will then have access to the whole computer thus allowing you to mess with settings that can make more work for them to fix. 2) Giving away that privilege will cause problems and make other people with blocked access angry and they will start asking for that same privilege as well. You are not allowed to have access for those two reason no matter what excuse you give them.

Since this is a take at home computer, there are probably restrictions if or not you can install programs.
One way you can get steam is to download steam onto a external hard drive or a flash drive that would hold steam and it’s games. Then you could run steam off of that drive. If you would like more information on that goto 1 .
You could also try making a new account as Admin. That might work but another way you could do it is by getting passed your school’s computers restrictions. This way is not illegal but might get your in trouble with your schools administrator or teachers. For that goto 2.

Lastly you could boot in safe mode. For how to do that goto 3.

1)a. Get your external drive
b. Download steam from another computer and make sure the install place is a folder in your external drive
c. Unplug it and re plug it into your schools computer
d. Open up the external drive and find the steam.exe
e. Double click on it and it should work!
Good Luck! :D
